>Recently, the editors of SmokeLong were invited by Robert Shapard and James Thomas, the editors of the Norton anthologies Flash Fiction and Sudden Fiction, to submit five pieces to be considered for inclusion in the books’ next releases.

After much intense discussion (and many re-readings of much of what SLQ has previously published, a joy in and of itself), the staff has sent the following five pieces to Norton for consideration:

On the Inside of a Horse’s Skull by Daphne Buter
Carnivale by Pia Z. Ehrhardt
Drop by Roy Kesey
Thirty-nine Years of Carrie Wallace by Jeff Landon
Metallic by Ellen Parker

We will post more news about this as soon as we hear it. Best wishes to all the writers nominated.

About smokelong

Our Mission: SmokeLong Quarterly is dedicated to bringing the best flash fiction to the web on a quarterly basis, whether writtenwidely published authors, or those new to the craft. The term "smoke-long" comes from the Chinese, who noted that reading a piece of flash takes about the same length of time as smoking a cigarette. All the work we publish is precisely that—about a smoke long.
