Deal Breakers in Flash:
“Maybe not a deal breaker, but kill a kid and I’ll have my eye on you. I’m wary when a writer hefts emotion into a story by writing about the death of a child or rape or heroin addiction–that sort of thing. My hope is the story won’t end with predictable emotions, but go somewhere fresh and tangled, where it’s impossible to feel all one way. My pet of all peeves is a character who is driven by emotion to pee or vomit. There’s no getting around that one.”
