This Week’s Reader: Mary Miller


Mary Miller is the author of a story collection, Big World, and two chapbooks of flash fiction, Less Shiny and They Could No Longer Contain Themselves: a Collection of Five Flash Chapbooks. Her work has appeared in McSweeney’s Quarterly, Ninth Letter, Mississippi Review, Oxford American, Black Clock, and others. She is a Michener fellow at the University of Texas at Austin, where she serves as editor-in-chief of Bat City Review.

Deal Breakers in Flash:

I think most writers have caught onto this by now, but if there’s a twist at the end, or any kind of surprise ending, it makes me feel sort of violent.
