This Week’s Reader: Dan Crawley

Dan's+PicDan is the author of “Our Littlest Brother,” which will be included in our upcoming anthology, SmokeLong Quarterly: The Best of the First Ten Years

About:

Dan Crawley was awarded an Arizona Commission on the Arts fellowship in fiction and was nominated for Best of the Web. His stories have appeared in the North American Review, SmokeLong Quarterly, Penduline, Fiction Fix, Quarterly West, and elsewhere. He has taught fiction workshops at several different colleges and universities, including Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University.

Deal breaker:

I’m not a big fan of meandering (you’ve got only a thousand words, you see). I like to read characters that do things, say things, which I won’t soon forget.

Some flashes he likes:

“Scapegoat” by Thomas Cooper

“Tenderoni” by Kathy Fish

“Belly of a Fish” by Rachel Mangini

Here’s a link one of his flashes:

“Coins”
